because perfect lives don’t exist without some hope and desire

I think that Honest John is the most underrated Disney villain. Not the best, but it’s a bummer people overlook him bc he’s manages to be creepy and hilarious all at once.
Seriously. In fact, most of the villains in Pinocchio are underrated. They’re all so disturbing because they get away with what they do and will keep doing it even after the main characters get their happy ending. It shows how we cannot defeat evil in real life, we must simply avoid temptation.
To me the villains in Pinocchio were some of the most realistic. Honest John swindles a school kid. Stromboli will do anything to make money and the Coachman doesn’t care who he hurts as long as he gets paid. They are some of the worst villains because they are so easily found in ourselves.

When we talk about eras of Disney feature animation, there are only two terms that are universally accepted: the Disney Renaissance and the Post-Renaissance era. Both of these are used to describe the modern era of Disney Animation (1989 to the present). However,…
This is the one of the best break-down of the eras that I’ve seen. I still call the Snow White-Bambi films Golden Age and Cinderlla-Sleeping Beauty Silver Age. idk, I’m just use to calling it that but “Beginning” and “Return to Features” makes more sense.
I personally think though that there should be a break with 101 Dalmations bc of the Xerox Copying machine. But it’s all really in the eye of the beholder, there isn’t a perfect way to do it! But this list is great.
I had originally wanted to use Silver and Golden but I changed my mind at the last minute so each era of films didn’t have a name that someone could see as biased. Thanks for reading the post!
Here’s the trailer for Day of the Crows. It’s a French hand drawn animated film and the trailer looks pretty sweet! Check out the Cartoon Brew story here! I hope it gets sent over to the US!
Once upon this same earth, beneath this same sun, long before you, before the ape and the elephant, as well; before the wolf, the bison, the whale, before the mammoth and the mastodon, in the time of the dinosaurs. Now the dinosaurs were of two kinds. Some had flat teeth, and ate the leaves of trees, and some had sharp teeth for eating meat, and they preyed upon the leaf-eaters. Then it happened that the trees began to die. The mighty beasts who appeared to rule the earth, were, in truth, ruled by the leaf. Desperate for food, some of the dinosaur herds struck out to the west, in search of the Great Valley, a land still lush and green. It was a journey toward life. - The Land Before Time (1988)

Our world was much larger then. The forest went on forever. We tree spirits nurtured the harmony of all living things, but our closest friends were humans. Then, as sometimes happens, the balance of nature shifted, and Hexxus the very spirit of destruction rose up from the bowels of the earth and rained down his poison. The forest was nearly destroyed. Many lives were lost and the humans fled in fear, never to return. Most think, they didn’t survive. It was only by calling up the magical powers of nature that I was able to drep Hexxus inside an enchanted tree and saved FernGully.
The prologue to Fern Gully is so perfect. I love the style of animation used and I love how tightly the back story is given. I would say after Beauty and the Beast and The Secret of NIMH’s prologues it is my favorite.

The Secret of NIMH (1982) may be the best animated film of the last 30 years. It’s certainly one of the most important.
When we talk about eras of Disney feature animation, there are only two terms that are universally accepted: the Disney Renaissance and the Post-Renaissance era. Both of these are used to describe the modern era of Disney Animation (1989 to the present). However, another term gets thrown around: the Dark Age, which refers either to the era right after Walt Disney’s death or to the period after the Disney Renaissance. I personally feel that this is an unfair assessment to both of that era. Calling these films “the Dark Age” immediately puts a negative concept towards them. Though the films from 1970 to 1988 were not the most grossing animated films they are still memorable and important to the history of animation. Throughout its over 70 year history, Disney has produced great films that are critically acclaimed. Though beloved, some did not perform as well as earlier films or were panned at the box office. So I’ve decided to try and find names that fit each era without any negative connotations.

The Mad Doctor - 1933
The Mad Doctor is one my favorite Disney’s shorts. It’s kind of scary to watch in the dark.
For some of their films, Disney would film real actors so that the animators could watch them for reference.
Another fun fact is that it was usually the voice actors who did the acting in the scenes. Make sure you always watch the special features on Disney Movies. They are full of neat information on how animation is done.
